The Laja Hydroelectric Project is a low-fall run-of-river hydroelectric power plant located on the Laja River in the Bío-Bío Region of Chile, with a total installed capacity of the LHP of 34.4 MW. By replacing fossil fuel-based energy in the grid, the project avoids the emission of more than 80,000 tCO2e each year.

The project has improved the infrastructure of the local school (“Escuela Puente Perales”) and contributed to the acquisition of land for the installation of the Puente Perales and Cachapoal social center. Finally, it demonstrates the potential for additional income through the development of renewable energy project activities, raising the environmental awareness of the local population.
