The Mariposas Hydroelectric Project consists of a 6.3 MW run-of-river hydroelectric power plant located in the first section of the Maule Norte Alto canal, in the municipality of San Clemente. This generates an average of 40 GWh per year and reduces emissions by approximately 21,000 tons of CO2 per year.

  • Location: San Clemente, Chile
  • Category: Hydroelectric Power
  • Standard: VERRA

The Project does not affect the community because the water used to generate electricity is returned to the same irrigation system before it is used by the local community.
In addition, it generates employment, improving the economic benefits to the surrounding communities of San Clemente, Pelarco, Colbún, Linares, Curicó and Talca, which have high unemployment and poverty rates.
Finally, it improves the irrigation system (about 2,200 users), through annual payments for water rights.
