In line with its purpose of Humanizing Mining and after a series of efforts, plant investments and continuous improvement processes, Enaex substantially reduced CO2e emissions associated with the production of ammonium nitrate at the Cachimayo Plant, located in Cusco, Peru. By virtue of this commitment, this year they have completed their carbon neutral certification process of Prillex Zero Production, for the period October to December 2023.

For the period from January 2022 to August 2023, Enaex’s Cachimayo plant had a carbon footprint measurement of 3.96 tCO2e per produced and packaged ton of ANFO-grade ammonium nitrate. However, after certifying the use of renewable energies and incorporating state-of-the-art N₂O abatement technology in the nitrate production process, the plant reduced these emissions to 0.107 tCO2e per ton produced and packaged of Prillex Zero (which will be offset by carbon credits). This initiative is part of an ongoing effort by Enaex to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations. Thus, in a period of 14 years and through the implementation of several projects under the Clean Development Mechanism standard in its Nitric Acid plants, the company has managed to reduce CO2e emissions, thus supporting the decarbonization of the mining industry. Additionally, Enaex has set even more challenging goals, such as reducing its Scope 1 emissions by 30% and Scope 2 emissions by 40% by 2030 and 2035 respectively, as well as reducing the use of fresh water by 40% by 2040, especially in regions with limited water availability.
