UTEM, through its Sustainability Program, has led a series of initiatives that seek to materialize the institutional commitment and reflect in its work the training of professionals committed to the sustainability of the country.
The organizational GHG emissions quantification and reduction calculations were performed by the UTEM Sustainability Program using the HuellaChile Carbon Management Program of the Ministry of the Environment (MMA) in accordance with Chilean standards NCh-ISO 14064:2013 (parts 1, 2 and 3), NCh-ISO 14065:2014; NCh-ISO 14066:2012; NCh-ISO 14069:2014 and NCh 3300:2014.
In turn, the quantification and reduction reports have been verified by an independent third party, CYCLO. The carbon credits used correspond to the Hornitos Project, located in the Valparaiso Region, which have been removed from the Verra International Registry, to ensure the traceability and transparency of the process, thus concluding with the CO2 Neutral Certification of SCX, for the controlled emissions (in scopes 1 and 2) of its operations for the period 2019.
During 2019, the University implemented a series of initiatives through the Sustainability Program, including: the development of the Institutional Sustainability Policy with the participation of all departments; certification of the Energy Management System based on the ISO 50,001 standard; design of an Environmental Management System on all campuses, based on the ISO 14,001 standard; sending a total of 10.4 tons of waste for recycling, among others.
