The project consists of a biomass cogeneration plant on the Viñales sawmill site. The cogeneration plant is equipped with a 210 ton/h fluidized bed biomass boiler and a 41 MW condensing/extraction turbogenerator unit.

Without the Viñales project activity, not only would there be no new injection of clean energy into the local grid, but the Viñales sawmill would continue to supply its power needs from the grid, created using more carbon-intensive methods.
The project uses residual biomass from nearby sawmills and forestry operations to generate renewable electricity for the local grid, achieving an additional greenhouse gas reduction benefit by reducing the uncontrolled burning of biomass residues, resulting in lower methane emissions to the atmosphere and contributing to Chile’s sustainable economic growth.
